The members of the Competition Commission of Brunei Darussalam are undergoing a threeday competition law training conducted by the Competition Commission of Singapore starting yesterday. Also present are officials from the Competition and Consumer Affairs Department, Department of Economic Planning and Development, Prime Minister’s Office and officials from the Attorney General’s Chamber.
The training aims to provide knowledge with practical experience on the key substantive aspects of the implementation and enforcement of competition law ,drawing from Singapore experience.
Dato Paduka Eddie bin Dato Paduka Haji Sunny, Chairman of the Competition Commission of Brunei Darussalam expressed his profound gratitude to the Competition Commission of Singapore for its unwavering support and graciously agreeing to provide technical assistance to build Brunei’s competition regime.
“This training takes at an opportune time when institutional and capacity building is a core task, alongside other preparation works towards enforcement of Competition Order, 2015”, he said during the opening of the training yesterday.
The training is delivered by two senior competition professionals from the Competition Commission of Singapore, Ms Ng Ee Kia, the Assistant Chief Executive of Policy, Business and Economics; and Mr Harikumar Pillay, the Director of Enforcement.
The intensive programme encompasses topics including the three key prohibitions in the Competition Order 2015, which are AntiCompetitive Agreements; Abuse of Dominant Position and Anti-Competitive Mergers. Also included are other core provisions in the law including enforcement power, penalty framework; market studies; roles, functions of the Commission’s roles and strategies in developing a competition compliance culture, in deterring anticompetitive practices and to encourage a healthy market.
The training is organized by the Competition and Consumer Affairs Department, Department of Economic Planning and Development in the Prime Minister’s Office.
